Still, I wasn\u2019t expecting this one. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\"><o:p> <\/o:p><br \/>With the European soccer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.euro2008.uefa.com\/\">championship <\/a>coming up, the <\/span><st1:place><st1:placetype><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\">University<\/span><\/st1:PlaceType><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\"> of <\/span><st1:placename><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Amsterdam<\/span><\/st1:PlaceName><\/st1:place><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\">\u2019s weekly magazine, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.folia.nl\/\">Folia Civitatis<\/a>, decided to make a soccer-themed issue. As I\u2019m their regular film journo, they asked me to write something film-related. Of all things they could\u2019ve come up with, they chose Bavarian porn. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\"><o:p> <\/o:p><br \/>\u2018Bavarian porn?\u2019 some of you might think? Well, it was a highly successful 70\u2019s softporn\/comedy genre from the Bavaria\/Tirol regions of <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Germany<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\"> and <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Austria<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\"> (there\u2019s your link with soccer; <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Austria<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\"> is one of the hosts of the championship). It\u2019s infamous for its combination of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heimat\">heimat <\/a>nostalgia and silly sex and nudity. In a sense a bizarre subgenre of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sexploitation\">sexploitation<\/a>. The genre is known as <a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lederhosenfilm\">Lederhosenfilm <\/a>in German speaking territories, and as Tiroler seksfilm in the Netherlands. It\u2019s cheap, dumb and degrading to women and\/or humankind in general. But in its stupidity and offensiveness it\u2019s also very, very funny. <span style=\"\"> <\/span><span style=\"\">  <\/span><span style=\"\">  <\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\"><o:p> <\/o:p><br \/>Really, track one down if you\u2019ve never seen one, they are hilarious.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\"><o:p> <\/o:p><br \/>I actually had the dvd of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0069665\/\"><i>Ach Jodel Mir Noch Einen<\/i><\/a> (1974) lying around the house (don\u2019t ask) and revisiting it was a blast. It\u2019s better (un)known as <i>2069: A Sex Odyssey<\/i> in English, a title which should be telling enough; it actually combines all that is worst\/best of Bavarian Porn with sci-fi!<span style=\"\">  <\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\"><o:p> <\/o:p><br \/>Naturally, I had a lot of fun writing the piece, especially as it needed to be a bit tongue-in-cheek (it\u2019s pretty hard to write anything serious on this stuff anyway). I&#8217;ll provide a link when it&#8217;s published. The conclusion was that if you don\u2019t give a crap about soccer (like I do by the way), watching Bavarian porn this summer is the next best thing to do to cleanse your thirst for stupid fun in the <\/span><st1:place><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\">Alps<\/span><\/st1:place><span style=\"\" lang=\"EN-GB\">. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes I get asked to write weird articles.
